Military leaders these days know that to win certain types of conflicts, like symmetrical conflicts, they need to create "mass effects", they need to overpower the enemy with a "superior presence".
This is why MoDs are interested in the idea of delegating certain tasks to a group of unmanned ground vehicles, to "swarm" of drones or packs of both. Especially missions that do not require the unique capabilities of humans; or missions that are impossible for humans; or tasks that are just too dangerous to risk humans. This way, they can produce more effects, with the same number of forces.
We intend to use our extensive expertise in defence to make the systems that help unmanned aerial and ground vehicles work safely and integrate very smoothly into the command-and-control systems for battlefield operations. Thus, Thales is working on products and solutions for various kinds of robotics and unmanned systems. We are proposing ISR capabilities on UAVs, unmanned aerial vehicles, more commonly known as drones.
We are also starting to look at what we can do to help armed forces integrate as well unmanned ground vehicles, UGVs, into their operations.
